Designing for Understanding, Empathy, and Human Connection
Over the past few years, my understanding of design has evolved significantly. Early in my career, I was focused on solving problems and creating intuitive user experiences. While that remains an important part of my work, I have become increasingly interested in the emotional side of design—how visual communication can make people feel understood, supported, and empowered.
My journey into design has been shaped by a combination of personal experiences and professional opportunities. After moving from China to the United States as a teenager, I became fascinated by the ways people interact with information, technology, and one another. This curiosity eventually led me to study Cognitive Science and Design at UC San Diego, where I began exploring how design can bridge the gap between human needs and emerging technologies.
Today, my work sits at the intersection of graphic design, user experience, healthcare, and artificial intelligence. I am particularly interested in simplifying complex systems and transforming them into experiences that feel approachable and meaningful. Whether I am designing a visual identity, a digital product, or an information-rich interface, I am always thinking about how design can create clarity and build trust.
One of the projects that has influenced me most was the creation of Lumi, an AI-powered health companion designed to support people living with digestive health conditions. Having experienced these challenges myself, I wanted to design something that felt not only functional but genuinely empathetic. The project encouraged me to think deeply about colour, visual hierarchy, and interaction design as tools for comfort and reassurance, rather than simply communication.
I am also drawn to projects that combine storytelling and strategy. I enjoy exploring how visual systems, typography, illustration, and interface design work together to communicate ideas and shape experiences. As technology continues to evolve, I believe designers have an important responsibility to ensure that innovation remains human-centred and accessible.
Throughout my career, I have had the opportunity to work with global organisations, technology startups, and healthcare initiatives, while also exhibiting work internationally and receiving recognition through design awards. While these experiences have been rewarding, what continues to motivate me most is the opportunity to create work that has a meaningful impact on people's lives.
Looking ahead, I am excited to continue exploring how design can make emerging technologies feel more human. For me, good design is not only about how something looks, but it is about helping people navigate complexity with confidence, understanding, and connection.

Peach Cat – Mascot & Visual Identity System
This project focuses on the development of an original character identity designed to foster emotional connection and brand recognition. From concept sketches to final illustrations and expression libraries, the work demonstrates the process of creating a cohesive visual personality that can adapt across multiple touchpoints. Through playful forms, soft color palettes, and expressive features, the character transforms a simple mascot into a memorable and engaging brand asset.
Peach Summer Adventure – Promotional Poster Design
A promotional visual created for a character-driven digital experience. Combining custom 3D illustration, typography, and vibrant seasonal imagery, the design captures a playful summer atmosphere while reinforcing the personality of the brand mascot. The project explores how character design and graphic composition can work together to create engaging visual storytelling across digital platforms.
Orby Workflow Builder – Visual Identity for AI Automation
This project explores how visual design can make complex AI systems feel intuitive and accessible. Through a combination of gradient-based branding, expressive illustrations, and carefully crafted interface elements, the design system creates a sense of clarity and control while supporting sophisticated automation workflows. The work reflects my interest in translating emerging technologies into experiences that feel approachable, trustworthy, and human-centred.
Achievement Badge System
A playful achievement badge system designed to celebrate user progress through collectable character-based rewards. Inspired by the growth cycle of a peach blossom, the badges visually represent different levels of accomplishment, progressing from emerging growth to full achievement. Through expressive character design, vibrant colour palettes, and layered visual storytelling, the system transforms functional status indicators into memorable moments of delight, encouraging engagement while reinforcing a cohesive brand identity.
3D Icon Design Collection
A series of stylised 3D icon explorations created to investigate the relationship between form, colour, and visual communication. Each composition combines custom-modelled objects with bold typography and vibrant gradients, transforming everyday symbols into expressive visual statements. The collection demonstrates my interest in blending illustration, branding, and digital design to create imagery that is playful, memorable, and visually engaging.
Lumi
Lumi is an AI-powered digestive health companion designed to help individuals better understand the relationship between lifestyle habits and digestive wellbeing. For this project, I developed the visual identity, design system, illustrations, and product experience, creating a calm and approachable aesthetic that balances healthcare credibility with empathy and human connection.
