Jessica Noble

Freelance Graphic Designer & Illustrator

Becoming a freelance graphic designer has helped me to unlock a wealth of experiences and skills that have made a real, positive impact on my life and career so far.

Since childhood, I have been passionate about expressing my creativity through art, design and crafts, leading to a degree in drawing and a qualification in graphic design. Creativity and art were the things that kept me going through all the struggles throughout my childhood, and to this day still.

I think it’s universally just a really radical thing, especially in the current political climate, to create and be present in doing so. It’s an act of rebellion to say no to consumption and yes instead to creation and, as a by-product, human connection. When I look back on it, I have achieved so much in a short space of time. My course with the Creative Design school taught me practical skills in having a creative process and how important that was for generating ideas and being well-informed. It gave me the confidence to set out on my own, marketing myself through the website that I created as part of the course, as well as my social media channels and word of mouth. I have met some great people and had the pleasure of being able to indulge in some more creative projects, like the die-cut brochure and origami flyer

I recently worked on a local business. The clients that trust me to work in my most creative element are the ones that enable me to have the most fun, and show the extent of skills and experience I have been able to create for myself. I’m the type of person that isn’t really satisfied with staying in one lane – I need to be constantly improving and learning new skills – so I think this aspect of my personality has kept me curious and humble enough to not be afraid to try new things and also to be bad at them for a while to begin with. I really think this is the key to being a more well-rounded and inspired creative.

So far, I’ve had the benefit of showing a range of skills through the different jobs that have been commissioned with editorial, social media graphics, advertising, branding, illustration and animation, and I’m so looking forward to seeing what comes next in my career!
