Neve Connolly
Freelance Graphic Designer
Over the past year, I have really come into my own as a graphic designer. This has been the year where my style has started to feel clear and intentional, rather than something I was still searching for. I have become more confident in what excites me creatively and how I want my work to feel.
My design style has developed into something bold and bright, with a strong focus on colour, confident typography and visual clarity. I enjoy paying close attention to detail and understanding how design choices influence how people think and make decisions. Learning more about how visuals affect the brain has shaped how I approach my work, helping me create designs that feel expressive while still purposeful.
As my practice has grown, I have found myself increasingly drawn to brand identity and packaging design. I love the challenge of creating visuals that communicate a brand’s values while also standing out in busy, real-world environments. Designing something that catches the eye on the shelf, sparks curiosity and feels instantly recognisable is something I find especially rewarding. Packaging allows me to combine storytelling, function and strong visual impact in a way that feels both creative and considered.
This year, I worked on a wellbeing app, which made me slow down and think carefully about how design can support people rather than overwhelm them. It encouraged me to consider how colour, spacing and layout can create a sense of calm while still feeling engaging and clear. I also created a brand identity for a bodycare brand, which gave me the freedom to be more expressive and playful, using bold visuals to reflect the personality and values behind the product. Experiences like these have reinforced my desire to continue developing my skills within branding and packaging-focused work.
Working as a freelance graphic designer has given me the freedom to explore different types of projects and lean fully into my way of working. I enjoy collaborating with clients who trust the creative process and are open to strong visual direction. Turning loose ideas into something clear, thoughtful and well-crafted is one of the most rewarding parts of my work.
I am naturally detail-oriented and have a perfectionist mindset, which I now see as a strength. Refining ideas until they feel right is where I feel most at home creatively. Finding my style has not felt like an endpoint, but the beginning of a more confident and focused direction that I am excited to keep building on.
